boot problems and ethernet(hope I'm in the right place)

To linux and network gurus,

RedHat support suggested I submit this to the user community for help, so
here goes.
I am experiencing a strange situation as detailed below. Responses to the
problem(s) are greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your
assistance. Looking forward to the solution to this problem.  

During boot - 3c509: WARNING! Module load-time probing works reliably only
for EISA bus!!, (nic is ISA).
 But, then it loads eth0 at 0x300 using IRQ11.. boot then continues but
small delay(few minutes) after Starting YP password services... then it
continues until it starts the SMB services. From this point it take 40
minutes to finish the boot. I generate interrupts with mouse, diskette, and
ethernet cable remove/plug-in.

 Once, booted the eth0 is recognized via ifconfig but it does not show my
gateway(129.35.5.250) so I do not have connectivity(assuming it's not
related to the boot warning. Oh by the way the warning is issued in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/3c509.c
 
 If I changed /etc/sysconfig/network ... to NETWORKING=no then the entire
boot only take 1 minutes or less(ie. normal)
 
 In a nutshell the booting is goofed up and so is the networking. I tried
to do a make dep and make boot but it came back with errors ( things are
missing I think)
  
 Is the problem a post/pre install question?:post since it was booting fine
until I set up all the network files (identical to my old computer, except
my nic was an SMC.
 
 
 Have you changed anything on your system that may affect the
 install/upgrade process?:not that I am aware of
 
 Have you checked the errata?:I think I did as I was searching for boot
hangs and 3c509c information. Lots of good info there but didn't seem to
find my exact problem or one close. Maybe I did something wrong.
 Have you changed/added hardware to your system?: This is a new computer
and a new install
