The original question involved the failure of Linux to recognize a keyboard on
the Supermicro P5MMA98 m/b. After posting this question, a friend suggested
www.dejanews.com. What a resource! It was about 5 minutes before I came up
with the answer, and another 15 minutes or so before the problem was solved!
Just to recap, the m/b in question does not correctly initialize certain hdwe
aspects of the keyboard interface, and requires one to reflash the BIOS with an
upgraded ROM image. The upgrade that was recommended in the archives (and the
one I installed) was:
ftp://supermicro.com/betabios/a98905.zip
There does appear to be more current BIOS updates, but I'm waiting to see if
anyone else has installed them first, and with what degree of success.
I'd give credit where credit was due, but have forgotten the name of the
individual who first posted this fix...
