pcmcia modem not recognized

Hi,

I have Redhat Linux 4.2 Kernel 2.0.30 installed on a Gateway 2000 Solo
2300 LX laptop (Intel 586) with a Gateway Telepath PCMCIA modem. However,
I cannot seem to get linux to recognize the modem--I have no /var/run/stab
file, for example, and cardmgr returns nothing. When I installed Linux,
it asked me if I needed PCMCIA support, I said yes and it asked for a
second floppy, but my redhat stuff only came with 2 CD's neither of which
seemed to contain what the installation program was looking for. So I
gave up and installed without PCMCIA support. I was later asked if I
wanted to install networking during the course of installation, and I said
yes--to which the program requested my ethernet card type. I don't have
one, so I cancelled the installation of networking and finished up the
install. Now I cannot seem to get linux to recognize the modem (which
works fine under dos). I did install all of the networking packages that
came with redhat. I have noticed that other folks seem to have had
similar problems in the list archives, but I haven't been able to find a
solution posted.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thanks,

MarySandoval
