Your first error was that you needed a link to one of the X server
binaries, called 'X'. You second error sounds like maybe the X rpm's
did not install properly. Go to ftp.redhat.com and download new rpms.
(Upgrade to 3.3.x) You will need at least the following
XFree86-3.3.1-1.i386.rpm (the guts)
XFree86-100dpi-fonts-3.3.1-1.i386.rpm ('3.3.1-1' could be like 3.3.x-x,
just get the latest)
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-
XFree86-libs-
XFree86-VGA16-
XFree86-SVGA-
XFree86-XF86Setup-
And finally, the one with the chipset support for your video card.
i.e. on of the following (Though there are a lot more)
XFree86-I128- (Mach 128 Chipset)
XFree86-S3- (S3, Most Early to Mid-97 Diamond Cards, Some STB's)
XFree86-S3V (S3 Virge, Later Diamond like the Stealth 3d 2000, and some
STB's)
....
To find out which one you need, I would try 'SuperProbe' It will give
you most of the info.
