I was having a similar problem with a Compaq machine with onboard everything.

I was able to solve the problem by turning the PnP feature on the BIOS off and letting linux assign it. The catch is that when I tried running Windoze I would have to go into the BIOS and turn it on again. To me, this was a small price to pay.

Another solution wich I haven't tried would be to change the rc.d scripts to delay the initialization of ethernet card. Anyone, would this work?
