Hmm I thought I was farily specific when I said:

this is on the very first boot disk.  The only key I hit was ENTER at
the boot: prompt, after which I get the text I mentioned above and then
a reboot before I get any other prompts or choices.

As far as the partitioning it is a 6.4 gig drive with only one FAT16
partition of 2 gigs.  The other 4.4 gigs is not partitioned.  I had
hoped that the install would allow me to make the rest of the drive into
one or two linux partitons.  I was planing on instaling LILO on the
FAT16 partition to allow me the choice between a linux and win95 boot.
