I recently installed Red Hat 4.2. My first attempt failed with
the message "Mount failed: invalid arguments" after the package
selection step. A check of DejaNews and the RH archives showed
that I wasn't the first person to have this problem, but I saw
no solutions posted.
After I discovered what the problem was I think I understand why
no one posted an answer -- it was embarassingly dumb. However
on the off chance that somebody else as stupid as I runs into
this again I thought it would be good to have it in the archives.
The problem was simply that I failed to format the new Linux
partition. Since I was using only one partition there was only
one entry in the Format Partition dialog, and I simply overlooked
the need to explicitly select formatting for it. Duh. (Of course
a better error message would have helped.)
