SCSI drive not visible...

I've been trying to install redhat 4.2 on my 486 8Mb RAM,
IntelEtherExpress, Adaptec 2740 controller (4 Gb SCSI drive, and SCSI
CDROM)
Using a boot parameter (aic7xxx=extended,no_reset) I can see the controller
initialize, without errors. I don't see the SCSI drive, or the CDROM.
When I get into the install and run fdisk, I can't see any drives at all.
In looking at the archives, it seems that there's a known issue with "wide"
detection, or some such thing, but my controller (BIOS version 1.01) does
not have that as an option.
I've seen some references to downloading a different img file, but in
poking around redhat's ftp site, I don't seem to see any that relate to my
system's hardware.
I'd appreciate any help figuring out where I've missed something......
Regards,
Tom Cooper
BTW - this system runs just fine under DOS, 95, and NT - please help me
banish M$ from this hardware!
