RHL + Compaq Presario

In a flurry of excitement over getting our RH Linux firewall up and
running (relatively) painlessly on a PPro 200 system, we then dashed out
and grabbed the first bargain-basement system we could find to make the
final system. We bought a (*grimace*) Compaq Presario 4716.
When the install failed to see the NIC (3Com 3C905), I did some digging
and found that there were known problems with Compaqs in general placing
the PCI info so high in memory that Linux can't use it. I see a fix for
Win95, but was wondering if such a fix exists for RHL? The topics in the
newsgroups never definitivly stated if there was a fix.
The machine will be returned tomorrow, so we only lose time, but if I can
make this work I wouldn't mind hanging on to the system. Ideas?
