Hm - I'm not sure if it works at all, but have you tried the 550
driver? The 550 is colour, all right, but maybe the driver works for
the 500 in b&w as well (I remember that most of the 5x0 series printer
are reasonably similar to each other, so it might be worth a try). At
least it's giving excellent results on the 550.
