Hi,
Ok ld.so if ya don't know is the dynamic link loader which is used by
applications which use shared librarys, so be very careful if you ever have
need to install a new one cos you can really stuff your system.
It sounds like you have the lib correctly installed, /etc/ld.so.conf notes
where to find shared libs and it will by default look in /lib.
For each lib (including ld.so) you should have the base file ie ld.so.1.7.14
and then a soft link to the name of the lib without the minor version name ie
ld.so.1
In your case if ld.so must be installed correctly since you are able to run
other programs, stuff as basic as logining in require it which I discovered to
my rue when I once installed an upgrade badly ;(, so my guess would be that
the Lesstif rpm is not right OR wants a later minor version (dunno if there
ones after 1.7.14 because thats what this box has). So you could try:
1) force the install
2) get the gz and install/compile from that without the RPM
3) upgrade ld.so. to a later version if it exists
I guess what you most need to know is have _other_ people using youyr version
of RedHat and ld.so been able to install that RPM, that I can't help u with.
Good luck,
Steve
