Slow Modem

Hello,

I just reinstalled RedHat Linux 4.2 and my modem is transmitting / 
receiving files at an incredibly low rate. Is there a bug in RH Linux 
causing this problem? What measures can I take to resolve this 
problem?

I have no performance problems with this modem while running Windows 
NT workstation or server. There does not appear to be a hardware 
problem with my server (Cyrix PR200 150Mhz, 32Meg, 3Gig HD with 2 
serial ports). The browser hesitates when I launch it or enter a new 
URL. I do not believe this problem is hardware related. I am almost 
certain there is a problem with RedHat Linux. Can some else confirm 
this experience... and share their resolution to the problem?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
