we can never be sure about the monkeys, but I can address the issue of how
the traffic moves over the network.
Picture your network like a snail mail system. In order to deliver
something to a destination, the information must first be placed in an
envelope. For the purposes of this analogy, each frame type
(encapsulation) is a different kind of envelope. There's an appropriate
part of the envelope for the destination address, as well as the sender's
name and address.
If your Novell server is configured to send and receive data using only the
large brown 8.5x11 envelopes (or A4 depending on your part of the world) it
will not pay any attention to the small white envelopes that pass by. It
will only pay attention to information that is in a brown envelope of the
right size that is addressed to it. Any white envelopes, even ones
addressed specifically to it will be ignored.
The mail system can support many kinds of envelopes (with certain size
restrictions)
If your Network only uses 802.3 for IPX, then your Linux system only needs
to support 802.3.
