Hi. I've been running linux for a few years now, and my current
system started off as Slackware-1.3, but I've since upgraded
everything to semi-current packages.
So, now I want to clean everything up and install RedHat 4.2, but
I'm having a few problems:
I burned a CD of the /RedHat/redhat-4.2/i386/ directory off of a
current mirror site (schlitz.cae.wisc.edu), and made the boot disk.
(CD was burned with cdrecord, and has the long file names, etc)
When I boot the boot.img disk, I get to the point where I tell it I
have a BusLogic SCSI controller, and then it stalls. When I switch
to one of the "debug info" virtual ttys, it says this:
"error in exec of second stage loader
error: permission denied"
Does anyone have an idea what could cause this? It does in fact
recognize the SCSI devices connected to the BusLogic, and I believe
the mount was succesful. Could this be a problem with the
permissions on the CD?
That would surprise me, but I suppose that if it trying to execute a
file on the CD which does not have the x bit, it could fail? Burning
another CD is no problem, as long as I know which files should be changed.
Another question: is there any way to have it load drivers for more
than one SCSI controller? I have a 1542 as my second controller
which drives my DAT and CDR, and I'd like to install off of the
CDR as it's 6x versus the 4x connected to the BusLogic.
Thanks
