fsck

i'm trying to install linux for the first time, and since i have a xircom
pcmcia ethernet card, i can't do ethernet install.  so i did a hard drive 
install, but after downloading the base file and _every_ rpm on redhat's 
site, after i install and restart, during start-up i get a message 
"etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: fsck: command not found"

i have looked in /sbin/, where i'm told fsck should reside, but all i
have is fsck.minix.

any suggestions?
