More newbie CD-ROM questions

Hello again. Thanks for the recent help getting my cdrom mounted to a
directory. This leads me to the next level: There is a program to play
audio cd's that installs as a part of the Redhat 4.1 package. When i put
an audio cd in the drive to listen to on headphones as i go about my
business and start the program, it loads and then terminates abruptly. The
cd-rom is a scsi device on this computer, and i know that i had to do
things a bit differently as far as getting it mounted on a directory
because of this. Do i need to mount the audio cd before starting the
program? (is there a filesystem i can specify to mount it, out of
curiousity?) Do i need to add and configure a sound card for this s/w to
work? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
