G'day,
I am trying to upgrade from Picasso (3.0.3) on my x86 to RedHat 4.2.
However, it seems the kernel used to upgrade my system has problems
using my CDROM drive (which is useable under DOS and Linux 1.2.13).
Here are the kind of messages I see on one of the virtual consoles
during the upgrade process, when the program tries to read the CDROM
(after asking what kind of CDROM I have - which is a Soundblaster16 type):

Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong here? As I said before,
the CDROM works fine under both Linux 1.2.13 and DOS.
I saw a message in the FAQ that:
----
E.3.1 How do I get my IDE CD-ROM on my SB16 to work?
The Creative Labs kit comes with the IDE Interface set to the third
IDE port by default (IDE2, I think). This won't work under Linux as it
only recognizes two IDE ports. What you need to do is move a jumper on
the card to configure it for IDE1 (the secondary IDE port). I'm not
sure if you have to make changes under DOS for this configuration to
work, but your manuals should help with this (it will still work, but
you may have to edit a file or two).
----
I checked my SB16 docs, but I couldn't see anything about a jumper
that changes which IDE port it uses. Does anyone have any extra info
on which jumper needs to be changed? The fact that the CDROM works
under Linux 1.2.13 makes me think it might be another problem, unless
the driver has changed a lot...
Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks!
Cheers,
;) David
