Installing new RPMs

Hello

Simple question from a newbie :-)

When installing RPMs do I have to uninstall previous versions of packages 
before installing new packages...I want to install some of the /updates/i386/ 
RPMs on the ceapbytes REdHat 5.0 CDROM....
