RH 5.0 Metro X question

Hi!

I'm a newbie who is fighting with Linux.  Any help would be appreciated.

Although I have RH 5.0 running, I'm trying to follow the method of adding
users through the Control Panel.  Unfortunately, while the Dummies books
says to type a command in an xterm window to bring up the control panel, I
don't seem to be able to get a cursor inside the window.  What am I doing
wrong?  Clicking inside the window with the mouse cursor doesn't seem to
work.  Is this a silly assumption of a Windows person? :(

I've tried adding users through a bash command line adduser command, but
that hasn't seemed to have worked.  I got my user id set up, but missed
adding the password, and now don't seem to be able to add it to the id.
