help!!! corrupted fs

Hello,

I was recently using my linux system (Redhat 5.0 on a Pentium 133 with
32 mb RAM) when things started going weird. I got a bunch of error
messages that I couldn't record or comprehend just before the system
crashed for good. Now, I am unable to boot the system. When I start to
boot it hangs after trying to mount the root filesystem. It displays
some garbage regarding the corruption of the filesystem. I am able to
boot with the stock redhat rescue/installation disk set and mount my
root partition (/dev/hdb2) and see all my files. What do I need to do
to get my system running again? Should I run fsck, and if so how do I
do this from the boot floppy? I would appreciate any help that you can
offer as I have put alot of time into configuring my system and would
hate to lose it all.

Thanks,
Geoff
