apache and redhat 5.0

hi there, i have recently jumped from rh4.2 to 5.0 on my computer at
home. with 4.2 i had apache was working fine - now with 5.0, it is not.
it fires up ok - these lines are ouput from the "ps" command, and
indicate that it should be working(?):

the problem is that if i point netscape to http://localhost/, i get a
"network connection refused by server" error. i don't know if its
relevant but here is the output from /var/log/httpd/error_log (todays
messages, i have re-started the server several times as you can see):

i'm at a loss. can anyone help?
