compile problems

Hi, I am reposting this again. I am still stumped!

when ever I try to compile anything on this machine running RH3.0.3 (kernel 
1.2.13) I get this message :-

/tmp/cca01724.i:1: numeric constant with no digits
/tmp/cca01724.i:1: numeric constant with no digits
/tmp/cca01724.i:1: invalid #line

etc..

I checked the /tmp everything looks fine with permissions given to 
everybody. 

I have no clue as to whats happening. Could some one please help me.
