Getting Samba off the ground

Can anyone help with the salient parameters required in smb.conf to get
samba up and running?  I'm trying to see a directory on my Red Hat 5.0
box from Windose NT 4.0.

So far, I've set the workgroup, comment, value parameters, changed
browseable under [homes] to yes, and created:

[public]
    comment=Public Stuff
    path = /home/odelljl
    public = yes
    writable = yes
    printable = no
    write list = @users

I think I may need something in the Domain Control Options, but I am
confused by them.
