XFree86 and Mack64 - Screen Flashes!

I installed XFree86 (off of RH 5.0) and it successfully probed my machine to
determine that I had an (on-board) ATI MACH64. Was also lucky enough to have
monitor (NEC) that was on the list of known monitors.  I accepted the defaults
for all prompts (e.g., default resolution) and Everthing should be perfect,
right?  Instead, whenever I drag a window, and cause text to scroll within a
window, I get stray flashes all over the screen.  Quite annoying!  Any ideas?
Is MetroX a better server?
