Re: SV: SV: 486sx rh5.1 install IDE drive problem

I used fdisk from dos to repartition and then dos formatted it. The system can
boot into windows 98 off the disk, no bad sectors, everything seems fine with
the disk. Linux still doesn't see it. I checked the jumper settings, and tried
several variations, still no go.

I have tried another drive, which works just fine, linux happily acknowledges
its existence, so I know it is not the controller...

The interesting thing is that when I boot off of the linux install boot disk,
and then hit return at the boot: prompt, in the text that scrolls by I see that
it identified the drive, got the correct cyl, hds, sctrs, and that it shows up
with a valid partition during the partition check. But when I get to diskdruid
or fdisk, it tells me I don't have any hard drives.

I tried specifying hda=685,16,38 at the boot prompt, but it tells me that it is
an unknown option just before it switches to the first install screen.....

Does anybody know how to manually tell it about the disk during the install, or
is there another solution?

thanks,
daniel
