Can this be right? I don't know all the differences, but Pentium Pro
is *not* the same as Pentium II!! I thought they had very different
characteristics, particularly in the floating-point support. I thought
that PPro and PII were different evolutionary paths, the first
optomized for better integer performance (for biz apps) and the latter
for better FP performance (for graphics and FP-intensive apps (like
games)).
I do know that the K6-2, also known as the K6-3D (i.e. with AGP) is a
Pentium II clone, not a Pentium Pro clone, although perhaps it is
compatable with both...
Why was that note about picking 386 for clone vendors put there in the
first place? Did somebody working for Intel write the install guide? If
there were real issues, what were they? I've never had trouble running
my K6-2 compiled for Pentium, but of course that proves nothing.
