Pam,
Simple. Tier 1 means that the OS and/or software was developed on and
is supported on the platforms listed. Tier 2 means that it was ported
and may or may not be buggy. For example, the SPARC port of Lunix has
Tier 1 support for any sun4m platform (SPARC IPC, Classic, 4, 5, 10, or
20). Tier 2 are the sun2c architecture machines (SPARC IPX, 1, 1+, 2,
250, 1000, etc). Sun4u (Ultra SPARC is not supported at all.
That's it in a nutshell. If you want a production box, go tier1. If you
want something to play with, try tier 2.
