Compiled Sound Support In 2.0.35-2? I Don't Think So.

I've been told that upgrading to kernel 2.0.35-2 will solve the modprobe
errors because sound support wasn't compiled into the previous kernel.  I
tend to doubt this because I upgraded to 2.0.35-2 from 2.0.35-1 and during
the boot sequence, I still receive the errors:

can't locate module: sound
can't locate module: midi

Where should these modules be located?  I'd like to actually see if they're
there or not.  And how would I compile sound support into my kernel?
