If you disable the video's IRQ, then X will not function.

Most new systems are primarily set up for Winblows PNP/PCI where IRQ sharing
IS allowed. Linux does not do very well with this under current releases...

Your best bet is to open your machine, and move the cards around. If your
video card is AGP, you will not be able to move it, but you can move the
others.

Before the system begins to load the OS there is normally a screen
indicating IRQ allocation. Move the cards around until no two cards are
sharing IRQ's.

Optionally, you can disable on board COM ports that you are not using. If
you have an internal modem, you should do this anyway and set the modem
itself to either COM1 or com2.

If you have a USB port, disable the interrupts for it as well.
