Thank you for you reply. However, I was not able to find anything related to my printer in BIOS. I assume you meant the BIOS setting that I could change at the very beginning of boot time by pressing DEL. I have a PPro 200. My printer is HP Deskjet 520.
My /etc/printcap looks like the following:
##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL cdj500 300x300 letter {} DeskJet500 1 {}
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:lp=/dev/lp1:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:
I would really appreciated it if you could tell me what else I can try.
Thanks!

Dear Changpeng Zhao,I had the identical problem after installing RedHat 5.1. It was foreshadowed
by the fact that none of the printer ports were "auto-detected" during the
installation. If you have checked your printer configuration file, and it
looks OK (see man entries for /etc/printcap -- you probably want lp1), also
make sure your BIOS entry for the printer is correct. That's where my
solution lay. I had my BIOS set up for a "bidirectional" printer but I
needed the "compatible" setting. It was confusing because it worked fine
for printing from WINDOWS. Once I fixed this it works fine on both OS's.
I hope this helps.David Anick
