Howdy,
Okay, here is the situation. I have an RHL 5.0 system which I planned to
upgrade to 5.1 and ordered the new CD set to do so. Restarted, loaded the
installation program, selected install from CDROM, keyboard, and upgrade
settings. The program then started to scan my scsi bus. It initialized bus
0, the bus with the hard drives as it would normally do, then it outputted
unusual messages:
<4> aborting command due to timeout pid 0, scsi 0, channel 0, id 0 ...
<4> scsi0: Resetting BusLogic BT-958D due to target 0
<4> scsi0: BusLogic BT-958D initialized successfully
<4> SCSI host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out - resetting
<4> SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0 target 0
endlessly repeats...
Now, this is odd for a number of reasons, first that no device exists at
target 0 for bus 0, this slot is empty. On a normal bootup of the existing
5.0 system, targets numbers for the HDs begin at target 1. After some
consideration I recalled that when I originally installed the 5.0 version,
the BT-958D host card was set to SCSI ID 0, and it was now set to SCSI ID
7. So I restarted, changed it back to SCSI ID 0 in the BIOS and restarted
the install program. Made the same selections as before and this time this
messages was output:
<4> aborting command due to timeout pid 0, scsi 0, channel 0, id 1 ...
<4> scsi0: Resetting BusLogic BT-958D due to target 1
<4> scsi0: BusLogic BT-958D initialized successfully
<4> SCSI host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out - resetting
<4> SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0 target 1
endlessly repeats...
My existing install boots up target 1 fine with a "clean" message when fsck
checks it. Also, while the install program is reinited the scsi bus, the
drive activity lights do not light up at once (or at all) as they normally
would when the bus is reset and initialized. In addition, target 1's
activity light does not light up at all when this is happening, which is
odd because it should if it is being accessed.
Any ideas on why this is happening and what can be done (I am just itching
to upgrade)?
Best Regards,
S.J. Martel
