CDROM busy

Being used to Windows, I often leave the CD in the CDROM and/or change the
CD without umounting the drive first. So consequently when I try to read the
CDROM drive nothing shows up and I'm not able to neither umount or mount it.
How do I "reset" the mounting of the CDROM drive?
When I do "mount /mnt/cdrom" the error is:
mount: /dev/cdrom already mounted or /mnt/cdrom busy
