trouble installing NT after Linux & Win98 (stop 0x0000007B)

I wanted to install NT on a primary partition, after Win98 and Linux. NT is
choking -- I'm getting a blue screen stop 0x0000007B,
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE during phase 2 of the installation.

I followed the Linux HOWTO instructions for uninstalling LILO from the MBR.
Before installing Linux I had installed NT successfully, and then
uninstalled it. 

Has anyone else seen this stop 0x7B problem under this circumstance?
