You're not alone on this one. I was overjoyed to find that sound worked on
both of my Linux boxes (one SB32PnP, one Crystal-based Acer AW95) after my
new install of 5.1 . However, I was completely unable to get it going
again once I had compiled my own kernel. There seems to be something
*very* wrong with regards to the handling of modules..and even trying the
sound compiled into the kernel didn't help. This is for both the 2.0.34
and 2.0.35 kernels (in my hands).
Since I have a day gig :-), I am seriously considering the OSS drivers,
this has turned into a pretty frustrating time sink. Actually, this is my
first strike-out, so to speak. I've managed to get my PPP up and running
at home with IP-Masq, etc...so I'm not afraid of tinkering, but this has
gotten annoying.
regards and good luck,
Jil
