I second the recommendation. There are several decent modems out there,
but I've used USR modems for a long time, so I'm most familiar with them.
I think the real key to making it as painless as possible is to get an
external modem, for two reasons: 1) No interrupts or such things to
worry about when configuring, and 2) you can see *some* indication of
what is going on with the lights.
