The drive may be OK. If the box crashed, then /dev/hda8 may not have
been synched prior to the crash, and may have been left in a quite messy
state. What where the results of the manual fsck?
Have you determined why the box crashed, in other words, somehow managed
to lock up, reboot, or shut itself down improperly?
