Re: Help: XDMCP, GNOME, RedHat 6.0 ?

I would suspect it's because Redhat 6.0 did something a little bit
different with the X fonts than previous releases. It now starts an X
font server (started by the user xfs) on a local unix port. Without
these fonts, X probably won't run right.

I'd change /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs so that in the start) and restart) case
statements the bit that says "-port -1" reads "-port 7100" instead.

Then change /etc/X11/XF86Config so that the line

    FontPath "unix/:-1"

reads
    FontPath "tcp/:7100"

You'll have to point exceed to the fontserver (thier docs should tell you
how) and restart X on the console as well.

That _might_ help, although I have heard of issues with gdm on Redhat 6.0
with PC based Xwindows emulators.

Best regards,

Malcolm
