Sorry, due to IPO-SEC related restrictions I am unable to get the archives
and therefore raising some newbie questions here:
My system hardware:
Intel Pentium II 350 MHz with 512K cache
Diamond Micronics Intel 440BX chipset 100 MHz motherboard
128MB SDRAM
Diamond Viper 550 AGP 3D Video with 8MB videoram
Hard-drive, CD-rom drive
56K v.90 internal modem (voice,data,fax modem, lucent)
Intel ethernetexpress pro 10/100 network card
PS/2 intellimouse
ViewSonic E771 SVGA 0.27dp
I purchased Redhat Linux 5.2 a few months ago and been trying to install
it. Currently, I am able to boot LILO and login as root. I installed the
mouse
and cdrom drive. I also mounted the /dos directory at /dev/hda1 correctly
(this helps to download files in internet via win-9x).
(a) video card problems - nothing works other than 16bit VGA with 256K
videoram
and no depth resolution. I am able to start Xwindows through startx
for this
specification but not others. Since XFree86-P9000 is supposed to be
used
for diamond viper cards, I downloaded this file, but stil unable to get
it working;
Is there any special way to run XFree86-P9000 ? I simply copied the
binary
into /usr/X11R6/bin along with other XFree86 binary files.
(b) Modem configuration - how do I 'mount' or 'install' a modem that is
internal?
( or even external?). I am able to use netcfg to apparently configure
a PPP
but 'activate' option does not even dial out. In windows I believe
this internal
modem is at COM3.
Basically I have an ISP and would like to establish a PPP through dialup.
Then I'd
like to use my video/monitor for best resolution and depth and run xwindows
at
its best. All help is appreciated.
