Has anyone successfully set up X windows on a Digital HiNote VP520
laptop? I got the laptop second hand; the manual has no technical info
(and Compaq, which bought Digital, has no specs whatsoever on their web
site). Thus, I have no clue re horizontal and vertical sync rates.
(The VP520 has a NeoMagic MagicGraph 128V video card, 60 mhz). Using
x86config I can get X to run under a variety of configurations (VGA,
SVGA, Extended SVGA; various horizontal and vertical sync rates, various
video ram settings (the unhelpful manual suggests the machine has a
meg) BUT I cannot get the SVGA driver to run, only the -16 driver AND
the X screen does not fill the monitor (there's a 1.5 - 2 in. black
border surrounding the image). Editing the "virtual" line in the config
file doesn't seem to help. One last thing: the same sort of thing
occurs when I do a fresh install of win95: the screen image doesn't
fill the screen - until I install a NeoMagic video driver (VOHNV519.EXE
NeoMagic V5.08) supplied by Digital.
Any help would b greatly appreciated.
