Mike,
Samba provides services that allow Windows and Linux share files.  I use it
to mount Linux directories in Windows.  That is, in the network neighborhood,
I can see the Linux directories that I have shared via Samba; I can read and
write files in those shares.  Also, I can print to a printer connected to my
Windows box from my Linux boxes.  This is a laymans view of Samba; it's
actually very technical; I've edited a lot of smb.conf (Samba configuration)
files.
