You're in!!!! You are looking at the bash prompt (command line
processor). My command line prompt is
bldrake ruby bldrake$
If I type the command <su> I see (after typing my root password; don't
type the <>)
root ruby bldrake#
ruby is my computer name (I have a network card and 4 computers) and
bldrake is my user name. I set up an account bldrake from root by
typing <adduser bldrake>.
Now you should type the command <startx> and you'll get a graphical user
interface called gnome/enlightenment. If you installed KDE (the K
Desktop Environment), you can type <switchdesk> in a terminal window. A
window will pop up with KDE as one choice. Choose it and logout of
Enlightenment, then type <startx> again at the command prompt (for you:
root localhost root#) and you'll see a cool GUI called KDE. Gnome is a
little behind KDE in its development for ease of use. On my systems I
keep the root GUI as Enlightenment because it is better for managing the
system than KDE.
Hope this helps. Welcome to Linux. Enjoy.
Barry
