about monitor and network card!

Hi all,

I am such a novice. I ve installed Linux but I cant configure my monitor. 
Its a SiS 6326 card, monitor is AcerView35c, and it wont be configured 
properly. I ve tried all of the ettings. Can there be a general setting that 
I could use. Moreover, for my Network card, I gave NE2000 compatible and 
tried probing, but couldnt get it. My network card is a RealTalk 8139. Help 
a hapless novice to Linux.
