Well, there are two quick ways.
One is to Alt-F2 to a shell halfway through the install
and reload lilo. The other is to specify the root filesystem
as an option to the install disk. If you can get a LILO:
prompt or whatever it is that uses, try "linux root=/dev/hda1"
(but with _your_ root drive, not hda1).

In fdisk, find out what cylinders your root partition begins and
ends on. They should be less than 1024 (both of them).
