kernel support for 256M

Hi, all:

I'd like to add another 128 M memory on a machine that already has 128 M.
There is a line in  the currnet /etc/lilo.conf
append="mem=128M"
My hunch is that I have to change it to 256, I am quite ignorant about
kernel config for different memories.

could anyone tell me what this does?
