And check, via printtool, whether any parallel port is detected when
you reinstall. If not, go to your bios Setup and make sure the parallel
port is still enabled. I had a problem that sounds like yours,
where my new printer's installation software, running under windows 98,
"disabled" the parallel port. This didn't stop printing in Windows 98
(I boot both Windows 98 and RH6.1 on my computer), but it did prevent
RH6.1 from detecting the printer.
