Folks,
I'm having problems installing RH6.1 . I downloaded the entire
distribution off of 2 different mirrors (parts from each) and had it burnt
onto a CD so I could update my RH5.2 . It was burnt onto a no-name CD-R
under Win98 using Adaptec CD Creator. The CD can be read while I'm in
RH5.1 and the files are accessible. I also downloaded, after that didn't
work, the .iso file of RH6.1 and had that burnt onto a Verbatim CD-R using
the same Win98 machine. That CD I cannot read at all under RH5.2 using any
of the fstypes. (Well, proc worked. :) I downloaded the new boot.img file
after reading some messages from this list, and the advisory from Redhat.
That helped slightly. My one problem from the original CD-R that was burnt
that would immediately say, after booting and recognizing hard drives and
cd-rom, that it couldn't read/access modules/module-info. The file exists
in the instimage/modules directory, as it should, I believe.
(Unfortunately, currently I am unable to mount the distribution CD at
all. Not sure why.)
My questions are as follows:
(a) Has anyone successfully downloaded a distribution, burnt it
onto CD using WinXX, and installed/updated it?
(b) Anyone come across the modules/module-info error and know what
the problem is?
(c) Is there a program available, maybe from Redhat, that will
verify the distribution I have on the CD?
(d) Is there a special fstype that I need to write the .iso file
as, under Adaptec CD Creator, so that RH5.2 will be able to
mount it? (Note: Win98 is able to read the .iso CD.)
Thank you in advance for any help, and I will post a summary of responses
and results when I get these issues resolved.
Thanks,
John McGinn
