Newbie: Resolution Problem

Hi there,

Myself as well as a few others on this and other Linux boards are having the same problem...or at least it sounds the same.

It doesn't seem to be the graphics card itself because we all seem to have different cards. Myself I have a SiS 530.

Anyway, I can install Red Hat flawlessly and since I am a newbie..I suggest that all other newbies look for the book "The no b.s. guide to Red Hat Linux 6". It is an amazing book, but it doesn't solve this particular problem.

When I log into Gnome, the resolution must be 640x480 or close to that because all I can view is a little section of the upper left portion.

I have tried to configure "setup" again from a terminal, but it is very hard to do with only being able to view a corner of the box. Still, nothing changes. Another way I read was to edit the X11 config and change all the monitor resolution orders from 640X480 to 800X600. Again, the config can't be edited when you can only view a small section.

If anyone can offer a suggestion myself (and I'm sure many others) would appreciate it.

Evan
