Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... well, I've only done CUSTOM installations using
Disk Druid and FDISK in the past having never done a Workstation or a Server
installation. The times when I've had problems with installations (when I'm
trying to install everything cleanly) is when (during the CUSTOM installation)
I'm given the option to format (or re-format) the different partitions and I
answer the option as YES. When I've answered NO, it seems like a much sloppier
installation and things don't seem to go as well.
I think it's with the CUSTOM installation that you set up each and every
partition (as I said before, I've always used DISK DRUID and have an good
understanding of how to get it to perform for me) /, /boot, /usr, /usr/local/,
/var, /opt, /home, /tmp, and a swap partition. That's probably more control
than what some would like to do in making a few partitions that a server or a
workstation install would do... but that's just me.
