Kernel Panic!

I am trying to upgrade from RH5.1 to 5.2. I downloaded all the files and
burned them onto a cdrom. When I run autoboot, it starts okay, but then it
hangs, saying:
VFS: cannot open root device 08:22
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 08:22
Can anyone tell me what this really means and how to fix it? I normally
just boot my computer, restart win98 in dos mode and run autoboot. With
previous (purchased) versions of RH it worked fine. Maybe there is
something funky because I copied the files?
Thanks!
