ESS 1938 Soundcard install

I'm installing RH 5.2 onto a new machine, and I've got X and stuff running,
but I want to be able to use the soundcard of the machine through Linux.

The machine has an ASUS motherboard with a K6-2/300 CPU, and it also has an
on-board sound card (Win98 identifies it as an ESS 1938).

I've looked through the HOW-TO and it implies that ESS (Ensoniq SoundScape)
cards are supported but it mentions no models in particular.

The readme.cards file points me towards the old OSS web-site (aparently he
no longer supports the sound driver software anymore), so no help there
really, and Alan Cox's page doesn't appear to help either.

Has anyone else got this type of card and configured it? Any suggestions for
help? I'll try and configure it tonight either way, I was just looking for
some pointers before I started....

TIA

Richard
